David Gates was born in Leominster, Massachusetts, in 1927. After graduating from the School of the Worcester Art Museum, he studied graphic and advertising design at Pratt Institute. Professor Gates has taught courses in lettering, graphic and typographic design, design research, visual imagery, and two-dimensional design.
