£72.00

Motif 5. Ruari McLean

The Shenval Press. 1960. 104pp

Hardcover

This issue includes an article about Michael Rothenstein and 3 colour (double page) prints by Michael Rothenstein, especially designed for this issue of Motif. These are direct impressions from Rothenstein blocks, a combination of lino and two woodcut blocks, by Christopher Foss.

Rothenstein became one of the most experimental printmakers in Britain during the 50s and 60s.

Another article shows six portraits by Richard Guyatt. Impactful drawings in their homes / studios of Edward Ardizzone, Henri Henrion, Edward Bawden, Julian Trevelyan, Berthold Wolpe, Reynolds Stone. Drawings are accompanied by an engaging written account by Guyatt about the visits and the ’sitters’ work and life.

Many other articles and book reviews by Nicolette Gray, Maurice De Sausmarez, Andrew Forge, Philip James, James Moseley, Walter Tracey, Kenneth Day, Cedric Price, …

A beautiful issue.

The top edge of the spine is missing (see image). Otherwise a very good copy.
