Design: the problem comes first

Jens Bernsen

Danish Design Council

Published in association with

The Conran Foundation

Boilerhouse Project

V&A Museum London

Edition:

English/French (2. Edition)

March 1983

Soft cover

120pp

Catalogue of an exhibition held at the Boilerhouse, Victoria and Albert Museum, 2 Mar.-28 April 1983

The book is designed / produced with transparency paper pages / overlays to show designs / images in a most sophisticated, interesting way!

Small changes were made compared to the first edition. Most dominantly, the headlines are in red type compared to black only in the first edition. This 2nd Edition does look more refined/better!

The idea of the book is that the statement of a problem holds the key to its solution. Good design is as much a matter of asking the right questions as of answering them.

Design is a process. it starts with a definition of a purpose. It progresses via a series of questions and answers, one being generated by the other, and ends with an:  I found it!
