Partly adapted from the author's previous books of 1940, 1943, and 1947. The Plates were printed in Switzerland. The essay by Tschichold is on calligraphy and painting of the Ten Bamboo Studio, including a discussion of Chinese writing and ink, seals, woodcuts and two-colour prints, as well as lots of general and technical information on the subject of Chinese prints.
The pages of the book are partly loose and the slip case has some split parts (which incidentally is quite common with this item).
